1) What is this place?
Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the People's republic of China. land mass of 1,104 km2 (426 sq mi) and a population of seven million people, Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. The city's population is 95% ethnic Chinese and 5% from other groups.

2) Where is this place?
Hong Kong is located on China's south coast, 60 km (37 mi) east of Macau on the opposite side of the Pearl River Delta. It is surrounded by the South China Sea on the east, south, and west, and borders the Guangdong city of Shenzhen to the north over the Shenzhen River. The territory's 1,104 km2 (426 sq mi) area consists of Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories, and over 200 offshore islands, of which the largest is Lantau Island. Of the total area, 1,054 km2 (407 sq mi) is land and 50 km2 (19 sq mi) is inland water. In addition Hong Kong claims territorial waters to a distance of 3 nautical miles (5.6 km).

3) Why do tourist visit this place?
Hong Kong has always been known as a place people would go for shopping and for food. As it is a country that depends and tourism, tourist is a very important source of income for the govenement. Thus, Hong Kong has been developed to suit the taste and need of various tourist, thus attrating them to the country. Almost any of the districts of Hong Kong can be considered a tourist destination. Some of the most popular locations are Hong Kong Island, Kowloon (New Kowloon), New Territories (includings Outlying Islands). The HKTB (Hong Kong Tourism Group) also continues to promote the destination to business and leisure travelers through its worldwide “Hong Kong – Live it, Love it!” campaign. Leveraging on the opening of several new attractions from 2005 onwards, the HKTB has designated 2006 as "Discover Hong Kong Year".

Other various Wikipedia source, but under different headings.
My own thoughts and opinions.

5) Negative Impacts of Tourism
Due to rapid urbanisation, the country suffers from air pollution, water pollution and thermal pollution. Extinctions of natural species of fauna and flora is also a problem found in Hong Kong. As laces need to be developed to accomadate to the growing number of tourist, the lands are being cleard and more infrastructures are being built every year. The governemt would also have to spend more money on maintaining the environement of Hong Kong, trying to reduce the impacts of rapid urbanisation.

6) Positive Imapcts or Tourism
Hong Kong is one of the world's leading financial centres. As more visitors come to the country, more money is spent in the country, thus causing more demand of the country's currency, resulting in a stronger currency. More jobs are also created with the increase in tourism, more people are needed to work in places to cater to the needs of these tourist. Also, with more people visiting from various countries,  there is more openness between the cultures. The different people are free to share their culture with the people in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is frequently described as a place where "East meets West", reflecting the culture's mix of the territory's Chinese roots with the culture brought to it during its time as a British colony. However, some old traditional Chinese practises are not lost in the influence from the other countries. Concepts like feng shui are taken very seriously, with expensive construction projects often hiring expert consultants, and are often believed to make or break a business. Other objects like Ba gua mirrors are still regularly used to deflect evil spirits, and buildings often lack any floor number that has a 4 in it, due to its similarity to the word for "die" in the Chinese language. The fusion of east and west also characterises Hong Kong's cuisine, where dim sum, hot pot and fast food restaurants coexist with haute cuisine.

  2. We agree with what wen and kat have said about Hong Kong being a shopping tourism. Although they do have historical and cultural places of interest, much emphasis has been placed on the modernization of the place of which shopping is largely focused on.
